Singer, Songwriter, Actress, Global Icon Dolly Parton Dead at 80

Sad day for the world of music and entertainment today, 105-7-The-X Rock fans. Dolly Parton has passed away at the age of 80, after battling various health issues the last year. Dolly was a one of a kind, known for her outgoing, fun loving, positive nature, she was uniquely talented as a songwriter, musician and vocalist- she penned her own lyrics and reached the top of the Country charts multiple times in the 1960’s and 1970’s. She broke down barriers and had a string of pop hits as well in her career, most notably the songs, “Here You Come Again”, “Jolene”, “I Will Always Love You”, and the massive hit “9 to 5”, which topped the charts as she starred in the movie of the same name in 1980 with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Dolly was an outstanding musician, songwriter and vocalist. Her career spanned multiple decades, and her songs, “Jolene”, and “I Will Always Love You”, stand out as some her most notable. The latter was covered famously by Whitney Houston in the 1990’s with the movie soundtrack for “The Bodyguard”, the song spent multiple weeks at number one. Dolly was a philanthropist, theme park owner, and never slowed down as she approached her 80’s.  Dolly was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, AND….the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, and she released a “Rock” album soon after. Last year she recorded with Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue and added new vocals to the song, “Home Sweet Home”, where both Dolly and the Crue donated the profits to the Covenant House. Her kindness and generosity was unparalleled. She will be sorely missed.
