So, I’m going to be honest with you, I’m a ‘Trekkie’, to a degree, and I’m not apologizing for it! Yep, as a small child, my earliest TV memories are of watching the original ‘Star Trek’ after school, and on Sunday nights. For whatever reason, the 1960’s series with Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Scottie were on constant repeat. Hence, I became a nerd and loved these guys. I even owned the original Star Trek figures and the ‘Enterprise’, which was bad ass.
So, let’s hit the hyper drive to 2016, I’m loving these rebooted Star Trek movies. Chris Pine as Kirk is right on, he’s a smart ass, has the look and swagger to pull off Captain Kirk. He’s delivered great performances with this reboot since 2009. Zachary Quinto as ‘Spock’ has been a pleasant surprise as well. The first two Star Trek movies have been directed by J.J. Abrams, who has now left to direct Star Wars and other projects. Add in Justin Lin from the ‘Fast And Furious’ franchise, and you have yourself one crazy, outlandish spectacle for this third movie. Star Trek is turning ’50’, and Leonard Nimoy passed away last year. It’s an emotional time for ‘Trekkies’. This new ‘Star Trek Beyond’ goes deeper into the characters, and the acting seems to be excellent. The early reviews are all positive, with a love story, a new nemesis, and special effects popping everywhere. This new movie is out Friday, and it’s time to slide on that bright yellow or blue Star Trek ‘Federation’ shirt, and nerd out. Let’s ‘Boldly Go where we haven’t gone before!’ Live long, and prosper. That is all.
