The death of Scott Weiland this month was a kick in the gut for Rock fans. Although his passing wasn’t completely surprising, knowing his well documented battles with substance abuse and erratic behavior, it was still a shock to all of us, as he fought and won many of those battles and had endured through the years. The most tragic part of Scott’s passing is the loss of a Father to his children. His now permanent absence from returning to Stone Temple Pilots is also felt across the world of Rock. That band, which he helped create in 1986, reached the top of the Rock spectrum in the early 1990’s, as they dominated radio and MTV with Nirvana and Pearl Jam.
Scott had battled back in the late 1990’s from his latest round of drug addiction, and the band released the comeback album, ‘No.4’ that year. The album would remind fans of their dominance, as they returned to radio with hits, and the band invaded the road with a successful tour. The song ‘Atlanta’ was featured on that album as well. This past weekend, Scott’s former band mates, Dean and Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz, paid tribute to Scott with a video tribute wrapped around the song ‘Atlanta’, a song that showcases personal lyrics and awesome vocals by Scott. This is a fitting tribute from Scott’s former band mates, who are clearly upset and battling the loss of their friend and vocalist. Amazing video, enjoy.
