Mayanrd James Keenan has been a hero to the twisted and the demented, as his bands, most notably, TOOL, focus on lyrics that are downright deviant and morbid, and are quite sexual. Maynard is one unique dude, and this past weekend, he managed to dismiss all that he has grown with this TOOL fan base, by telling a reporter with the ‘Phoenix New Times’, that TOOL fans ‘insufferable”, and “ret*rds”. Yep, something tells me this won’t sit well with the fan base.
Maynard also said in this interview that his band mates in TOOL ‘conned him into’ performing this past weekend at the ‘Monster Mash Music Festival’ in Phoenix, and said the alleged new TOOL album was also in doubt. “There’s nothing to say. I can’t” AS for the TOOL fans, he ranted when asked about the “humor” in TOOL’s lyrics, “Yeah, it’s there. But people miss it because they’re so focused on the other bullsh*t. It’s lost. Insufferable people….it’s just ridiculous, reta*ds. I’m sorry. Can’t help them. Way too serious. Too much. Lighten up.”
Well, well, Mr. Keenan! So, the fans that you energized and captivated with your deviant lyrics are all idiots for misunderstanding you in the first place? All of the TOOL lyrics were supposed to be laced with humor? You guys are a jokester band now? Very confusing, and very negative for his base of support. Perhaps he needs to re-evaluate the fact that he has a special relationship with his fans, and that his work with his bands are appreciated and adored by millions. So what if they are taking it a different way than you intended it. That sir, is your fault, as you left much room for interpretation on all of those songs and lyrics. Sigh……will we ever see a new TOOL album?
