Join 105.7 The X and runners from around the midwest this Sunday for the 3rd Annual PNC Bank Peoria Marathon and River city Races! This is the third year for the race but the first time it will be held in the fall with all races starting and finishing downtown, in fact all races will end INSIDE the Peoria Civic Center arena floor!
This is central Illinois world class running event with a 5k, 1.2 mile youth fun run, a 4 person marathon relay and the half and full marathon! This is an amazing race for the casual runner and the elite, our entire staff will be there and as I’m sure you’ve guessed I will be running one of the races, I’ll be doing the half marathon (13.1 miles)! Look for the 105.7 The X van set up on the corner of Main and Jefferson and look for our tent set up inside the civic center.
If my math is correct this will be half marathon number 13 for me and the first time I’ve been able to run the Peoria River City Race. I was set to run its inaugural year but shortly before the race was when I was diagnosed with cervical cancer (I’m cancer free now). My hopes is to finish with a PR (Personal record) and finish under an hour and fifty minutes, however I haven’t ran a half since the spring of 2014 so I’m a little bit out of distance shape/stamina. Brad Henz, from Shazam Racing (the organizer of the race) has been my coach and working me pretty hard so it’s achievable but I’d love to see you on the course because it’s always the crowd support/volunteers that means the most.
This such an amazing event for Peoria to have and we are proud to be a part of it this year and hope to see it grown each and every year. Proceeds benefit St. Jude runs, it’s not too late to find your race or volunteer, in fact the race is still in need of volunteers for the event.
