As your resident runner here at Radio Peoria consider this your invite to lace up and run or walk Peoria this weekend. This is my all time favorite race and one I am so happy to see back on the book for 2021, the Steamboat Classic aka ‘The Worlds Fastest 4 Miles’! Doesn’t matter if your a fast or slow runner, a walker, jogger, wogger (run/walker), we are living and running again in central Illinois and this is one of those long Peoria traditions that is BACK, so get out and run with me.

This weekend will mark the 47th running of the Steamboat Classic and it will be held in celebration of healthcare professionals and volunteers. These individuals will receive a special $19.00 discount for themselves and their family members. The Steamboat Classic will be held in Downtown Peoria on Saturday, June 19, at 8:00 a.m. Online registration is available at www.steamboatclassic.org.
Event organizers have also updated special plans for this year’s event:
-Face masks and social distancing will not be required for people to participate, spectate, or volunteer at the Steamboat Classic. Organizers urge everyone to use their best judgement regarding personal use of masks and social distancing. Organizers continue to encourage everyone eligible to get vaccinated. (I am vaccinated, join me #TeamModerna)
– The Four Mile Run/Walk and One Mile Fun Run/Walk will begin with wave starts. Approximately 300 participants per wave will start every 30 seconds.
– The Fifteen Kilometer Run will not occur in 2021.
– Pre-Race Number & Shirt Pickup and Late Registration on Water Street in front of RC Outfitters on Friday, June 18.
– Post-Race Celebration with Refreshments (including traditional early morning beer), Entertainment and Awards on Water Street at Kelleher’s Irish Pub & Eatery.
