We are once again at a loss at the breaking news reported by TMZ that Linkin Park lead singer, Chester Bennington is dead, reportedly by suicide.

Shortly after news broke, the L.A. County coroner confirmed to Associated Press that Bennington had died. TMZ first reported that law enforcement source told them that Bennington hanged himself at his residence in Palos Verdes Estates in L.A. County. His body was discovered today just before 9 am, Bennington was 41 and is survived by six children and his wife, Talinda.

The apparent suicide comes on the birthday of Bennington friend’s Chris Cornell, who committed suicide back in May. Bennington sang at Cornell’s funeral. Linkin Park were scheduled to start a U.S. tour next Thursday in Indianapolis.

We’ll have more to come as this story develops.

We remember way back in the day when Linkin Park played the Madison Theater in Peoria, OPENING for Papa Roach. Shortly after that concert their single “In The End”, from their debut album Hybrid Theory, exploded on the airwaves and everyone knew Linkin Park and their days of opening shows were over. Their sound definitely changed direction with their latest album One More Light which still debut at number-one. It was the band’s sixth number-one out of seven studio albums and they become just the ninth rock band to notch that many chart-topping albums. Adding their seventh studio album, two remix albums and a collaborative album with Jay-Z, Linkin Park now have 10 albums that have made the Top 10.

We will be playing tribute to Linkin Park all day here on The X along with the 5 O’clock Freak Out playing nothing BUT Linkin Park.
