Anyone who knows me, knows I am a die hard St. Louis Blues fan. I love watching games and going to games and I have to admit, I love the rivalry here in Central Illinois between Blues and Hawks fans. I’ve herd all your jabs; “why can you get a drink in St. Louis”, “how many cups you have”, “why don’t you like teams that win” blah blah blah. Guess what, still a Blues and still having fun with it all, that’s what makes sports so fun. Rivalries!!!!
Over the past several months on my facebook page I’ve been posting “sweaty selfies” of me after I finish one of my training runs for the Rock N Roll Nashville Half Marathon, which I am running in memory of Reagan and as a St. Jude hero. I sweat…A LOT…it’s gross so my hope is every time I post an ugly, sweaty, selfie not only can I share what I’m doing, who/what I’m doing it for and HOPEFULLY get some donations for the St. Jude Run, which I’ll be running this August for my 6th year from Chicago to Peoria. As I’ve been posting these “sweaty selfies” I’ve gotten lots of likes, comments, encouragement and a few donations sprinkled in. Last week I decided that if you wanted a “sweaty selfie, this week you need to donate” and that’s where Brandon comes in.
Brandon is a faithful supporter not only of the radio station but he has also contributed to my fundraising every year (and I hear he donates to other runners as well). Last week he left this comment on my sweaty selfie I posted just for him and his donation.
So, I set the price…$1000 (for St. Jude) in one week and not only will I put on that ugly Blackhawks sweater but Brandon I’ll even invite you to the studio, with the jersey of your choosing and take the selfie with you.
When Brandon and I had this social chatter my fundraising amount was at $2520, so the magic number for the Blackhawks selfie (I’ll even throw in a facebook live video too) is $3520. Over the weekend, Brandon got $230, so as of writing $770 is left. Clock ends at 7pm Friday. If the goal is met by then, or before, Brandon can pick the day/time he comes by.
I’ll admit yep, this does help my fundraising for St. Jude, but there is still torture there. I’ll forever have a picture of me on the internet wearing a Blackhawks jersey….ugh. BUT there is nothing I wont do for St. Jude. I believe in what they are doing, I believe more needs to be done and if this is one small thing I can do in the grand scheme of it all, then well…I’ll take one for the team, even if that means wearing a hawks sweater.
Personally, I don’t think it’s gonna happen and I’m trying to even help Brandon out (hence this blog). In my opinion the majority of Blackhawks fans are bandwagon fans, quick to say “my teams the best” but when it really comes to stepping up and putting a Blues fan in your colors…eh I don’t think you have want it takes. But for those of you who are true hawks fans and want to see my eat my words and maybe even cry here’s where to donate: www.peoriaruns.stjude.org/AnnaRunsForReagan
