I saw this video and instantly felt compelled to share it and blog about it. Being in the “rock music” world I’m surrounded by far more men than women, being in the day and age of saying anything you want online, I hear the comments. I learned years ago getting into this business to have thick skin, most the time I can let hateful things roll right off my back, nine times out of ten. However, there is always that one time that will cut below the belt. There’s always the time when I meet someone new and I have to warn them, “when you tell people you know me, they will tell you bullsh**”. It’s a sad reality of life in the public eye, I’m not the only one victim to it, all of us are. Usually it doesn’t hurt, we have learned its part of the job, that some people no matter what are just cruel. It’s a sad reality of “how we make a living” but we do it because we love it, we do it because not everyone is an a-hole.
All I can say is watch this video where REAL guys read REAL comments made about sports reporters Sarah Spain and Julie DiCaro – to their face. These fans learn some tweets are #MoreThanMean – they’re harassment. Then please share this with the hashtag #MoreThanMean to increase awareness about harassment of women and the next time you feel like you need to say something negative and cruel and hateful ask yourself what if someone said this to my girlfriend, wife, mother, friend or daughter…what if…
