This past Saturday night, Rock's 'Royalty' was in attendance at the 'Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame' induction ceremony at Cleveland's Public Hall. Some pretty big names made it on stage, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Joan Jett, Patti Smith, Dave Grohl, Zac Brown, Miley Cyrus, Stevie Wonder, the list is pretty amazing to say the least. And who was the guy freaked and 'wowed' out by these people? Yep, one Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day, who, along with his bandmates, Mike Dirnt and Tre' Cool, were inducted into the Hall.
"It's lilke my record collection is actually sitting in this room", said Billy Joe on stage midway through his acceptance speech. "The fact that I heard Patti Smith's 'Horses' as a kid, and now there you are standing there." Billy Joe seemed awestruck and freaked out over the entire event, especially after he played with McCartney and Starr, two surviving Beatles. The band 'Fall Out Boy' inducted Green Day, and kept their speech light hearted and fun. Green Day may be one of the youngest members to ever get in inducted, as they are all in their younger 40's. However, you cannot deny their impact on Rock music, and their mass appeal as a angry punk rock act, that exploded onto the scene in 1993. Despite career highs and lulls, Green Day rolled the dice with 'American Idiot', in 2004, and never looked back. That album certified them as major players in the field, and they became even more mass appeal, with Grammy Awards and Broadway plays in their name.
The entire 'Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame' ceremony and performance will be aired on HBO in two weeks. Kudos to Green Day, richly deserved!
