For me, nobody had the courage or the angst that Kurt Cobain brought to my generation. Kurt's story, as it flowed through his band, Nirvana, was perhaps the most real and devastating thing ever seen in music. Just think, this guy was homeless at one point, angry, disillusioned, sleeping under a bridge, writing in his journals, and plotting world domination with his unique musical ability. Kurt was a victim of selfish parents, who tossed him around like a unloved puppy, between Grandparents and relatives. His anger and dropping out of the normal routine of childhood was greatly influenced by his parents divorce and decisions. There is a lesson here for Generation X and Y, those kids have gone through too much due to painful selfish behaviors by their parents. How many kids went through personal mental trauma in the 1980's, 90's? Kurt was the poster child.
This new Cobain documentary has been labeled as 'raw and real', and it's titled, 'The Montage of Heck', and it debuts on HBO in May. Never before seen home movies, interviews with his parents, family, band mates, and his controversial wife, Courtney Love. There is a never before seen or heard 12 minute song as well. At the 'Sundance' Festival, this documentary was all the rage, and was being heralded as the best of the group this year. For me, Kurt was our spokesman of that era, and his death was perhaps the most shocking event of the decade, as it left a generation of kids and young adults asking, 'Why?' I think this documentary answers some of those questions. Here's to you, Kurt…..
