Countless reports come up all the time of someone having an iPhone or and iPad stolen and they are able to find the robber. This is not because of great police work (which is not needed in this case) or Shaggy and Scooby tracking your lost technology down while the get high in the Mystery Machine, but because there is an app for that. Find My iPad is a great app that Apple made just for this. You will get to see it in action when you watch the video below. Most of us know these apps exist, and are a very small deterrent for stealing this pricey technology. Now if you are smart enough to reset the tablet, smart phone or laptop that has this tracking technology, you are golden. Other words, you should be selling this technology at top dollar to someone else so it does not appear that you are at fault. Plus after you sell it you can buy your very own so this is a win win.
I am not trying to provide a guide for the common thief out there, who most likely knows all this, but I want to point out that in any heist, all variables need to be taken account of. IF you can't do that, you are just a dumb criminal and deserve to get caught red handed. Now watch as this TSA agent gets caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
There is a certain point when you need to realize that you have an ABC film crew at your house and you need to give the iPad back and shut the door. You don't need to make yourself look any worse on national TV. Nothing like a good investigative report from Brian Ross to insure that this man will probably never work again.
