Kurt Donald Cobain died on April 5th, 1994, from a self inflicted gunshot wound. He was found three days later. We all know the story, as it’s etched into our minds. Not since the death of John Lennon and Elvis Presley did one, single Rock star’s death affect the masses like Kurt’s.  Kurt’s death haunted the Grunge and Alternative Rock world that Spring, and as time has passed, it still resonates as the singular moment, when an era ended, with one amazingly talented artist, who changed music, and the culture completely. Before Nirvana, the music and Rock world was way different.  Radio was filled with power hair metal ballads, and syrupy pop music. Kurt was one real artist. Raw, emotional, vulnerable, full of pain and anger. A voice for Generation X. Suddenly, a new sound, meshing Punk Rock fury with a new, angrier explosion of expression.  Nirvana, with one song, changed everything, overnight. And then, they showed that they were more than just one song, with a catalog of music that still stands out today. Kurt’s loss is still felt, and this Friday and Saturday on the X, we will pay tribute in kind.

This Friday, April 5th, at Noon, and then again at 7pm, we will air Nirvana “Unplugged In New York City”, with no interruptions. Kurt’s last performance. That performance has gone down as one of the best ever. Kurt narrates, jokes, chain smokes, and shows his pain thru the songs that he personally chose that in night in November 1993.
