Thirty Seconds to Mars posted a new video, for “Rescue Me,” shortly after guitarist Tomo Miličević announced he is no longer in the band. (more on that later)

Shorty after that announcement the band released a video for the song ‘Rescue Me’ (coincidental on the timing?) and along with the release Jared Leto writes “Rescue Me is a song about pain, a song about empowerment, a song about faith and a song about freedom. Pain does not discriminate. it can affect us all.” The video also marks the first time in 13 years that Leto didn’t direct the video himself.

I love the timing of this release, with suicide back in the news with recent deaths of Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade, I also like in the statement he says that both himself and his brother have had their own intense battles. Pain, depression it is something that effects everyone and doesn’t discriminate. I’ve read a lot online on people saying why should we care that rich and famous people kill themselves, poor them blah blah blah they have it all. It got me to thinking that obviously they don’t and just because a pictures looks happy and perfect, that doesn’t mean it is. Depression doesn’t pick and choose, just like cancer, it can affect anyone at anytime. I’m pretty sure all of us have have some low points in our lives at one point or another, I know I certainly have. Let’s stop saying “because they are rich and famous their life doesn’t matter” because no matter the chosen profession, their life matters; our veterans, celebrities, students, nurses, teachers, let’s try to not devalue one life over another and instead let’s figure out how can we keep talking about depression, and how it affects all the walks of life and what we can do to help them all. I guess that’s what I got out of this song. One of the many reason’s why I love music, what it says to each individual is different.

Now on to that Tomo departure. Milicevic tweeted a statement saying, “There’s really not an easy way to say it so I thought, just say it. I am no longer with Thirty Seconds To Mars.” He continued, “I want to say thank you to Jared and Shannon for allowing me the privilege to be a small part of their dream and to have been able to share the stage with them for so long. I’ll cherish the moments we had together and I’ll have love in my heart every time I think of those days until I draw my final breath.” Tomo didn’t explained the reason for leaving but told fans, “Please don’t be sad or angry over this and most of all, please don’t be divided over this, this is a good thing and will be good for everyone.” Tomo has been with the band since 2003. Doesn’t sound like there is any bad blood, and I’m still super excited to see them in St. Louis next month.

Thirty Seconds To Mars perform tomorrow night (Friday) in Chicago at the Huntington Bank Pavilion.
